The Great Warming
Narrated by Alanis Morissette and Keanu Reeves, The Great Warming is a dramatic television documentary series and film about climate change that sweeps around the world to reveal how a changing climate is affecting the lives of people everywhere. Being a tremendous success Swiss Re also provided financial support to a cinema version of The Great Warming which premiered in New York on 3 November 2006.
The television documentary first broadcasted in Canada in 2004, and has been aired in numerous countries all over the world. The cinema launch in the US was just another milestone in the successful story of The Great Warming.
It has been called "the best film about global warming ever shot”, and taps into the growing groundswell of public interest in this topic to present an emotional, accurate picture of our children's planet.
Filmed in eight countries on four continents and endorsed by dozens of the world's leading scientists, this three-hour television series is the most factually accurate, visually stunning and wide-ranging production ever mounted about this complex subject. Swiss Re not only sponsored the production but also contributed with input from members of its natural perils team.
With the aim to increase public awareness in the topic of climate change, decided the makers of The Great Warming to draw up a cinema version which premiered successfully on 3 November 2006. In cooperation with Regal Cinema, the film will be shown in the top 50 US markets. A wide range of spectators will be addressed to the actual subject of global warming. The The New York Times writer Laura Kern hit the nail on the head by writing: “The Great Warming…, should be required viewing by all.”
